There’s a whole army of people who’ll correct you if you say the phrase “I am JUST a mom”, I’m here to be that army to correct you when you use just in other places. For example, “just send the email”, “I just can’t seem to get it all done”, “I just don’t have time”, “Just go do it”. Let’s try these again without the JUST in there: “Send the email”, “I can’t get it all done”, “I don’t have time”, “Do it.”
Can you tell the difference between the two? I may have felt vulnerable or too bossy to leave the just out, or it may have felt empowering. Pay attention to what is going on when you use the word “just”, some of it may simply be habit, regardless of the reason you are putting the word in there pay attention as you go through the week and how often you and those around you are using the word. Practice saying the phrases without the justification.
